Pointless Nostalgic

by Saurabh 28. February 2006 16:44

You're nobody till somebody loves you, You're nobody till somebody cares. You might be king, you might possess, the world and its gold. But gold won't bring you happiness, when you're growing old. The world still is the same. You'll never change it. As sure as the stars shine above. You're nobody till somebody loves you. So find yourself somebody to love.
I was recently introduced to Jamie Cullum and his fabulous music. This is from the 4th track from his debut album "Pointless Nostalgic". How apt to how I am feeling right now!

My Long Wait For CS2

by Saurabh 24. February 2006 16:42

Community Server 2.0 was released this monday, 20th February 2006. It is a very significant release with a large number of exciting features. Most prominently I know frequent vistors to my blog will appreciate this, when they don't have to do the annoying one extra click to post their comments, this has been a long known issue with CS 1.x.

But I gotta wait a while before I can upgrade my CS installation as apparently the web installer for ASP.net 2 isn't out yet. I cannot install via MSI package installer as I do not have rights to do that on my webhost.
I specifically want to install the ASP.net 2 version instead of the ASP.net 1.1 version because I just spent $50 (Canadian Dollars) on Professional ASP.net 2.0 co-written by Scott Hanselman.
It wouldn't make much sense if I installed the ASP.net 1.1 version does it then? Kevin Harder will have some idea, maybe I should email him…

Half-Life 2 : Aftermath - No More

by Saurabh 12. February 2006 17:37

VALVe Software has revealed to GameSpot that Aftermath, the upcoming expansion pack to the multi award-winning 2004 shooter Half-Life 2, has been renamed "Half-Life 2: Episode One." When asked whether the name change is indicative of a change in direction for the Half-Life 2 franchise, Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi replied, "episodic." When asked the follow-up question of whether the new name meant that beginning of a regular flow of content, Lombardi replied, "yes."
So I say, yipee! Lest there will be no more long waits as there was between Blue Shift & Half-Life 2.

My Take on Why Nice Guys Don't Get The Girl

by Saurabh 11. February 2006 16:36

I don't know… it could be love gloom, or the bazillionth spat I witnessed between my younger brother & his girlfriend that got me wondering why girls always go for the bad boys. I can point 3 of the most obvious reasons -
1. A Nice Guy isn't sexy.
2. Women want to date the center of attention, in other words they'll always pick flashiness & excitement over blandness.
3. Hard to tell if a nice guy likes a girl.
I might be a member of the loners' club but I'm certainly far from nice.(As far as 1 & 2 are concerned) Though I may have been guilty on count 3 a couple of times. I know it has more to do with my social life, which barely exists for the moment. God I hate it!

Why I Hate Performance Appraisals

by Saurabh 1. February 2006 16:35

Managers cite performance appraisals or annual reviews as one of their most disliked tasks. This was the 2nd appraisal that I conducted in the past 3 months, I now understand why most managers feel this way! It takes a few minutes for you to become all evil in the eyes of your subordinates, even though you have been their mentor for a long time.
